Since I said my goodbyes on Instagram last week, several you have followed me over here to Substack, which is both heart-warming and thrilling. It tells me you who want to engage on a deeper level than we could ever do on any of the socials. So welcome!
I mentioned in my final IG post that I’d explain a bit more about what went into my decision to leave the platform and focus solely on Substack. Besides what I wrote there, I can expand a little more here. While I know IG is absolutely worthwhile for many people (influencers, visual artists, or just people that like to be social), I’ve realized more and more than it’s not for me. I’m a writer and that’s what I want to focus on and to have my followers focus on. Each time I send out one of these newsletters, I always get a handful of unsubscribes (a good thing). But I also get several handsful of new subscribers who follow me for the right reasons: my reading and writing content. I love that! That’s what floats my boat and makes it a joy to write for you. Posting on IG didn’t do that for me.
So, when several other successful authors whom I admire wrote about quitting IG, it resonated with me. I’m fortunate at this “certain age” that I feel comfortable with what some would think of as a radical decision. If you love social media, you do you. Isn’t that what having choices is all about?

As I’m back to revising one manuscript and drafting another—a rarity for me to be working on two projects at once—I haven’t had as much time to read as I’d like. However, here’s what I’ve either finished or is in progress:
